Item ANTHROPOGENIC FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO THE ECOLOGICAL CONDITION LANDSCAPES IN THE MINING ZONES OF IMERETI AND RACHA(International Multidisciplinary Conference Actual Problems of Landscape Sciences: Environment, Society, Politics., 2019-09-13) Elene Salukvadze / ელენე სალუქვაძე; Tamila Chaladze / თამილა ჩალაძეA comprehensive landscape study was carried out in the coal mining area of Tkibuli -Shaori and the teschenite mining area in Kursebi. The article describes changes in the landscape, soil and vegetation and their specific ecological properties in the mentioned areas. A large scale map (1: 50 000) of Tkibuli Municipality has been designed with GIS by drawing on literature, expedition materials, satellite and aerial images and topographical maps.Zones of ecological stress have been revealed. Significant transformation of relief, intensification of geodynamic processes (landslides and mudflows) and groundwater contamination were identified as top risks related to coal mining. Open cast teschenite mining in Kursebi results in a high number of technogenic pits deprived of soil and vegetation and in low quality anthropogenic landscapes. The following anthropogenic impact zones can be distinguished: 1. A severe impact zone where vegetation and soil are completely destroyed and changes in microrelief, and consequently in climate, trigger landscape transformation. 2. A zone adjacent to a mining site. 3. A transitional zone between post-mined and natural landscapes which is partially destroyed and altered.Item Anticipated Impact of the Construction of Anaklia Port on the Adjacent Coastal Landscapes(Institute of Geography, Tbilisi State University, 2019-11) George Lominadze; Irakli PapashviliThe future development of the marine transport system of Georgia, the necessity of which is undoubted, largely depends on the harboring potential of the Kolkheti seacoast. Among them should be noted the district in front of the River Enguri estuary, which has the most favorable natural conditions for port construction due to the great depths of the Enguri submarine canyon, and it is one of the best in the whole coast for projecting of the future port (Anaklia) here. Selection of a place for ports in the seashore zone and then designing and building them is a highly responsible task, where a mistake should be excluded. Otherwise, the rebuilding of the already constructed port facilities will be either impossible or too expensive. In this case, are expected irreversible processes, which can be expressed in catastrophic changes of seaside landscapes and complete environment. This is particularly about the coasts of accumulation type where migrations of the beach alluvium during of the sea storms can reach quite large volumes. Fig. 1-2 Therefore, for designing on a high level and proper operating of the future port in Anaklia additional researches and some changes in the port project are needed.Item Contaminated soil remediation by self-cleaning processes activation(TSU, P. The high informative value of landscape maps makes it possible to use them for various practical goals. Small-scale scientific-reference landscape maps are significant in regards to putting their versatile contents to good use, though they are uncomfortable due to the thin contours, whereas maps with mid-size and thick contours are widely used. Landscape maps are significant as far as they are used as a basis for special maps such as natural zoning, environment protection, recreation, melioration and other kinds of maps. Item DETOXICATION OF AFLATOXINS WHIS PHYTOGENESIS ADSORBENTS(The 6 th International Conference ECOLOGICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMISTRY-2017, 2017-03-03) Mikadze, Irma; Uridia, Rusudan; Tatiashvili, Leila; Nonikashvili, NinoItem Fe 2+ Removal from Aqueous Solution Using Expanded Perlite(International Journal of New Technology and Research, 2021-07) Ioseliani, D.; Balarjishvili, G.; Kalabegashvili, N.; Samkharadze, L.; Nonikashvili, N.; Mikadze, I.Abstract— Adsorption properties of Georgian expanded perlite prepared on the basis of perlite – natural mineral of Georgia in the process of aqueous solution purification from bivalent iron ionswere investigated for the first time in the work. The dependences of adsorption degree and volume capacity on change of solution pH, adsorbent dosage, contact time and adsorbate concentration were studied. Tests were mainly conductedunder dynamic and static conditions. Optimum conditions for Fe2+ adsorption on expanded perlite have been determined. Maximal efficiency of iron adsorption degree was equal to 91%, and volume capacity – 1.82 mg/g. Expanded perlite shows excellent adsorption properties in the process of iron removal from aqueous solution.Item Impregnation of Iron and Magnetite Phases in Wood and Partial Pyrolized Wood(Science and Technology of Polymers and Advanced Materials, Applied Research Methods, 1st Edition, 2019) SARAJISHVILI, K.; JALABADZE, N.; NADARAIA, L.; KVARTSKHAVA, G.; KORKIA, T.; NONIKASHVILI, N.; GABUNIA, V.; CHEDIA, R.Nanoiron-containing adsorbents have been widely used for cleaning of waters contaminated with organic and inorganic pollutants. Nanoiron can be spread over an organic and inorganic liner. Using renewable bioresources (timber, agricultural wastes, waste of biotechnological processes, etc.) to obtain sorbents containing nanoiron and iron oxide is quite promising. Iron-containing sorbents were obtained using Alnus incana wood. To avoid the emission of organic components from the wood into water, their partial pyrolysis was carried out with the formation of 1-3 mm coal layer. 13-17% of iron was impregnated in pyrolyzed and non-pyrolyzed samples. Impregnation was performed by 0.2 M FeCL36H2O and 0.2 M Fe(NO)39H2O solutions. Reduction of impregnated in the wood Fe+3 ions to nanoiron was carried out by NaBH4 in an inert atmosphere. By this method, polyfunctional sorbents like Fe/wood and Fe0/C/wood were obtained. Fe3O4/C/Wood type sorbents were obtained by pyrolysis of Fe(NO3)3-wood complexes. The nanoiron was spread on wood linen by passing steam of iron (0) pentacarbonyl at 150–200°. Wood-Fe(CO)5 system fibers composed from spatial grains are formed in an autoclave during heating. Magnetite partially impregnated into 74the wood. The obtained sorbents easily cause degradation of halogenated organic pollutants (1,4-dichlorbenzol and 4-bromanaline) and completely remove Cu+2 ion from model solutions.Item Karst Caves Origination Conditions in the Zemo Imereti (Chiatura) Structural Plateau, Georgia.(2019-11-05) Lezhava, Zaza; Asanidze, Lasha; Tsikarishvili, Kukuri; Chikhradze, Nino; Sherozia, Ani; Chartolani, GiorgiZemo Imereti structural karst region comprises the easternmost part of the limestone strip of Georgia and it is the only platform karst region in Georgia. The peculiarity of the relief of the mentioned plateau, namely, dense and deep (100-250 m) fragmentation, sharp distinction of plateaus, their altitudinal (400-800 m above sea level) distribution, plain surfaces (6-12° sloping), as well as the climatic conditions, positive annual balance of runoff and hydrological regime along with the structural-tectonical conditions of substrate constructed karstified rocks creates favourable conditions for karst development. Unlike the geosynclinal karst zone of Georgia, formation of the mentioned region proceeded under the platform conditions. Existence of this solid platform stipulated the relatively simple tectonic structure of Zemo Imereti Plateau; namely, smooth subhorizontal layout of Cretaceous and Tertiary suites over the Hercynian platform and dominated distribution of stratification fissures, which stipulated formation of hydrodynamic zones and wider development of subhorizontal caves (80% of caves are subhorizontal). Karst caves in the Zemo Imereti Plateau are the product of the evolution of hydrodynamic zones significantly. The evolution starts from Pliocene and is still underway. During this long process the hydrodynamic zones are under the permanent changes: dying-drying of upper zones and conceiving-watering of lower zones. Post-Sarmatian intensive ascending tectonic movements and short-term delay epochs mainly stipulated the storey distribution of represented caves and wide distribution of tunnel type caves. Correlation of relative heights of caves levels and terrace stairs, as well as the absolute heights of caves entrances and karst sources outlets lets us assume that there should be at least 4-5 slow down epochs of ascending tectonic movements.Item Natural Resourceful Potential of Imereti Landscapes(TSU, Vakhushti Bagrationi Institute of Geography, Tbilisi, Georgia, 2019-11-05) Elene Salukvadze / ელენე სალუქვაძე; Tamila Chaladze / თამილა ჩალაძეThe environmental exploitation of any region is related to natural conditions and resources as the characteristics of the geographical position of the area and its historical processes. The environmental conditions, in turn, reveal the material and non-material cultures, traditions, the characteristics of usage and settling in nature. This is clearly stated in the landscapes as in the whole territorial system which has its potential, as it can provide all its inhabitants with warmth, water, recreation, etc. The most important part of this research is to reveal the resourceful potential of the landscapes for which by using the expedition material, air-cosmic photos and topographic maps, geo-informative system of Imereti landscapes has been created by GIS technology. The large scale (1: 50 000) landscape map of Imereti region has been made, where landscapes are shown on the level of landscape species. Each landscape area is calculated. Landscape natural resourceful characteristics are shown on various hypsometric levels and they are agro- climatic, resort recreational importance is estimated. According to the results of the research, geographical conditions, features of using resources will be significantly reflected in the transformation of the landscapes, resettlement features and farming. Anthropogenic effects have been affected by each component of the landscape on the study area, especially plants, but the whole change of the landscape as shown in the part of Imereti plains. Strongly transformed plains and neighboring foothills are transformed intensely by 80-95 % but in average mountainous regions, we can see practically completely transformed landscapes in the result of exodynamic processes and mining extraction activities, share of which is 10- 15 % of the whole Imereti region. An important part of karst caves has undergone the phreatic stage of development, though nowadays the traces of pressured flows in most cases have been erased by impact of vadose waters and other processes (corrosion, destruction, formation of speleothems, etc.). It is being also identified that the process of evolution of caves is not similar within the same karst massif that is related to the violation of the normal course of cave development by the influence of tectonic movements or other conditions. In the modern stage of development, the phreatic regime is well expressed in the Ghrudo underground basin, and the traces of both the vadose and dry epochs are well preserved in the higher located caves that went through the cycle of development. The periodic streams play an active role in the next stage of cave development, which, in turn, has been reflected in cyclical nature of sedimentation.Item The peculiarities in the development and changes in the subtropical agricultural landscapes (in western Georgia)(IAR Journal of Agriculture Research and Life Sciences, 2021-02-28) Salukvadze, Elene; Chaladze, TamilaThe article points out natural and anthropogenic factors contributing to the formation, development and alteration of agricultural landscapes in western Georgia, specifically, in the Colkheti coastal plain and the adjacent hilly foothill zone, where subtropical agriculture used to be heavily developed (tea and citrus plantations, etc.). The former state-owned tea farm zone in the borough of Laituri, Ozurgeti municipality, Guria was selected as the study location. GIS technologies were applied to digitalize the 1960 landscape map of the zone and create its new version (1:50 000) as of 2017 based on the topographical map of 1960 (1:50 000), satellite images and field observations (2010-2017). The analysis of the Laituri 1960 and 2017 landscape showed that 66% of tea plantations have been amortized and degraded: they have gone wild and are overtaken by weeds. Due to high costs involved, only 10% of the area was cleared to cultivate hazel nuts, blue huckleberry and persimmon. 24% of tea plantations survive to varying degrees and are currently harvested.Item Problems of Tourism Potential of Samegrelo(Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. Vakhushti Bagrationi Institute of Geography, 2019-11-06) Vazha Neidze, Nino Pavliashvili , Mzia Tutberidze , Giorgi Khomeriki , Giorgi LominadzeThe following article reviews tourism potential of Samegrelo – one of historical provinces of Georgia. Samegrelo is characterized by richness and diversity of resources necessary for tourism development. This mostly relates to its natural and cultural heritage, while the economic base of tourism is weak. Samegrelo has access to coastline, foothill and mountain resources, highland sights, picturesque valleys of rivers Tekhury, Abasha and Khobi and karst caves. Besides these, protected areas of the Colchis wetlands also play a significant role in the tourist potential. Ethnic and cultural characteristics of the local population is worthy of a separate focus as well. This work presents a scheme of area planning of tourist potential of Samegrelo. As a result of several years study of tourism potential of the region, authors have developed a scheme of subdivision of tourist-recreational potential of Samegrelo. Three tourist regions and eight zones were distinguished. Item Purification of quarry water with heavy metals using plant residues(2019) Mikadze, I.I.; Ioseliani, D.K.; Balarjishvili, G.I.; Samkharadze, L.O.; Kalabegashvili, N.G.Item Purification of waters polluted with heavy Metals using adsorption(WORLD SCIENCE, 2018-04) Balarjishvili, G.I.; Kalabegashvili N.G.; Ioseliani, D.K.; Samkharadze, L.O.; Mikadze, I.I.Adsorption ability of adsorbents prepared on the basis of Georgian natural zeolites (clinoptilolite, mordenite) and mineral brucite in the process of purification from the heavy metals of modeled (simulated) solution similar to the acidic quarry water of Bolnisi MCM (Bolnisi Mining-Enrichment Combine, Georgia) and Kazretula River water is studied. Dependence of degree of adsorbents’ adsorption on the composition of adsorbent, mutual ratio, mechanoactivation and experiment duration was studied. It was shown that in the mentioned process, adsorbent brucite:mordenite at the ratio of 1:1 is the best adsorbent taking into account practical and economic factors. This adsorbent purified a water of Kazretula River by 100 %, while modeled solution similar to the acidic quarry water were purified from copper by 93% and from iron by 87%.Item Racha Range Karst and its Research Perspective(Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. Vakhushti Bagrationi Institute of Geography, 2019-11-06) Merab Gongadze, George LominadzeThe article examines the future perspectives of research of the surface and underground karst of the Racha limestone Mountain Range: relief particularities, main directions of its research and methodology. Appearing of the mountain range was conditioned mainly by geological-tectonic and lithological structure, to which was added impact of the exogenous factors. The result was expressed in developing of alpine relief, dense erosive network and multivarious karstic forms. The rivers’ network to some extent is adapted to breakdowns, and Urgonian limestones, dolomites and other rocks, non-resistant to water, conditioned formation of deep, steep sloped valleys. Here the rivers Krikhula, Khoteura, Sharaula and their numerous tributaries are conducting main erosive activities. Because of the same reason on the limestone massif of Kikhamta, Shaori Caverne, Nakerala Range are intensively developing karstic processes, which are manifested in both, surface and underground forms. Abundance of karstic ponors and vaucluses in the river valleys are testimony to development of multiramouse network of cavities – holes, tunnels, caves, produced by water in the limestones. By means of numerous surface karstic forms (poljes and developed in them sinks, wells, crevices), located on the Racha Mountain Range, a great amount of surface water (rain, melted snow, creeks, streams), is leaking in the thick layers of the range limestones, resulting in intense karstic denudation and in consequence – production of underground hollows. Taking into consideration all these data, we can presume that limestone-karstic massif of Racha Mountain Range contains very complicated and multiramouse system of underground cavities, which requires long and complex geomorphological, geological, hydrogeological and geophysical study.
