From this viewpoint, the paper is both interesting and topical. Ivane Javakhishvili was the first to introduce the European method in Georgian historiography. Javakhishvili’s approach implied scientific criticism of historical sources. This outstanding scholar made the historical narrative scientific. This approach might have been influenced by Ranke. Apart from the common features, there are certain differences in the attitudes of the two scholars. Javakhishvili never confined his research to political history.
