Abstract:
The period from 1905 to 1907 saw the intensification of the process of
consolidation of national political forces. The idea of restoration of a national
state became popular. It started with the creation of National-Democratic Party
and the strengthening movement for restoration of the Autocephaly of the
Georgian Orthodox Church.
During this period, Ilia Tchavtchavadze became a political leader and a
main figure in the movement for the restoration of statehood. All branches of
the national movement were gathering around him. Nevertheless the personality
of Ilia Tchavtchavadze appeared to be unacceptable for the opponents of Georgian
statehood, especially for the Russian government and the Social-Democratic
Party.
