dc.description.abstract There are a few gemmas found on the territory of Georgia representing the image of altar, dated after the late antique era and connected with the antique world as well. The research objects for us represent the following of them: two gemmas found on the territory of the traces of settlements in Urbnisi (On one gemma armed Athena is embodied and at the right side of the rim the altar is depicted. This gemma is dated after the end of I century A.D. and the beginning of II century A.D. On the second gemma a low and round altar is depicted with the wings-open eagle on it. This gemma is dated after II century A.D.) and gemmas found on the territory of burial grounds in Bichvinta (an altar is depicted on the gemma. This intaglio is dated after III century A.D.), on the territory of Gonio-Apsaros (an altar is depicted on the gemma. And the eight-pointed star is presented above it. This gemma is dated after III century A.D.) and Kldeeti (Athena- Pallas is depicted on this gemma, she is standing in front of the altar. This gemma is dated after II century A.D.). Contemporary political and cultural processes are clearly reflected on the glyptic material. By our opinion, the gemmas with the image of Athena on them were the result of trading-economic relations between Rome and Iberia and could be counted as a confirmation of the cultural influence of the West. The rest of three gemmas we connect with the victorious legions of Rome, stationed at the sea-side in Western Georgia. en_US
