Abstract:
Quite a lot is known about Erekle II (1745-1798) as a strategist and a reformer king, but his interest in heraldry and numismatics had not been studied until recently. In this article, for the first time in Georgian historiography, we have concluded, that Erekle II was the first king from centuries-old Bagrationi royal dynasty, who collected coins and was a heraldist. With his personal contribution, Georgian state heraldic symbols were modified and advanced to the new, European level.
