History remembers many protests that had important results. The United States Civil Rights
Movement, which opposed racial discrimination and segregation, gained equal rights under the
law to the African-Americans. Participants of this historical moment were American Jews,
whose contributions have been repeatedly praised by well-known African-American leaders
and historians too.
Based on the sources, which include personal records, interviews and texts of public speeches
along with historical facts, the article outlines the main goals and aspirations that led American
Jews to engage in the Civil Rights Movement. In order to better analyze the issue, the social,
economic and political situation and experience of the American Jews of a given period are
taken into consideration, that implies a better study of the nature and character of a particular
ethnic group. |
