Abstract:
The peculiarity of the repetition, which allows the authors to widely
apply this technique, is its stylistic multifunctionality and the possibility
of wide compatibility with other stylistic means. The stylistic figure “repetition”
sometimes becomes one of the characteristic features of the individual
artistic style of one or another author, passing from one of his
works to another. Repetition as a stylistic category is an integral feature
of F.M. Dostoevsky, artistically justified in his works of different genres
and at different stages of his work. Repetitions are directly related to the
“style-forming core” of Dostoevsky’s individual handwriting and stem from
the nature of the writer’s creative individuality. In the nature of repetitions,
in their quantitative use and stylistic originality, the excitement and tension
of the narrative are manifested with particular vividness. Along with
other expressive means, repetitions in Dostoevsky’s work are “meaningful
elements of the artistic form”. This study was conducted based on the novel by F. Dostoevsky “The
Brothers Karamazov” and is intended to expand the understanding of stylistic
repetition as a vivid means of expression in a work of art in terms of
its types and functions, as well as methods of translation. In the novel «The
Brothers Karamazov», repetitions as one of the means of speech characterization
of characters are deeply individual in nature. Reflecting the state of
mind of the heroes, they often reflect the originality of their thinking.
The analysis revealed the main ways of translating repetitions in the
novel “The Brothers Karamazov” into Georgian. Repetitions carry significant
pragmatic, sociolinguistic and psycholinguistic information about the state
of the characters, characterize the relationship of the interlocutors and
other components of the communicative situation, therefore, their transfer
during translation requires serious attention to them and the choice of
optimal translation solutions that contribute to the achievement of adequacy
in the translation text. The discrepancy between the structures of
repetitions of the original and the translation is due to the specifics of the
interpretation of the text by the translator, as well as the stylistic possibilities
of typologically different languages – Russian and Georgian.
