Abstract:
The article focuses on localizing the Sedokhezi tribe, which appears just
in one source – Tacitus gives us information about them while describing events
about Aniketi rebellion. Sedokhezi tribe is mentioned by source as living near
river Khob. It is disputed in historiography, river Khob of Tacitus is modern
river Khobistskali (Khobi) or river Enguri (both in Western Georgia). Arrian,
author of the 2nd c., mentions river Khobos and it seems, it could be just modern
river Enguri. Pliny the elder mentions it too and as it seems, it should be river
Enguri. So, it seems more likely that Khob of Tacitus is Khobos of Arrian and
Pliny i.e. modern river Enguri. Therefore the Sedokhezi are Colchian tribes.
