Abstract:
The Main Church of Jakismani Monastery is one of the interesting
buildings of the Southern Georgia (historical province of Samtskhe). We
have no historical records about the Monastery. The level of research of
this complex is not very high. That is why we are focused to intensify the
interest toward this architectural monument. Recently the empiric
investigations were conducted over the complex and we are putting the
results of these in this issue.
After revealing the several hidden parts, the full view of the
architectural complex, i.e. of the main church and neighboring buildings,
can be observed. That fact provides us with new date for the main church
(the end of 10th c.) and other parts of the complex (8th-9th cc., 13th c., 15th
c.). This date is also confirmed by other data – stylistic and typological
traits, like decoration, architectural details, epigraphics, etc.
