Abstract

Hereditary succession is one of the major characteristics of the dynastic rule. According to Ivane Javakhishvili, Georgian Kingdom used to have two typesof order of succession: at first, while existing the royal clan, it was seniorian order, and later, while existing royal family, primogeniture. As he states (and we agree to his opinion), royal succession in Georgia was regulated according to traditional customs and for the exceptional circumstances, the will of King was decisive. The will of King was the source for the legislation and it acted as the highest regulator of juridical order.
