Abstract:
Historic and real processes conceptual reflections in modern inter
and cross-disciplinary researches caused growing interest memory
studies. In the scientific literature there is confessed that projection
of conceptions of trauma and cultural trauma takes a special place
in memory studies of countries with totalitarian and post-totalitarian
experience.
Ukraine has already passed post-colonial period and now is on the
final stage of formation of European, modern nation. Russia-Ukraine
war, together with changes in the world’s order, affected all spheres of
social life. Today the war is the central topic of discussions and debates.
From the standpoint of cultural trauma and traumatic narrative the war
is an “impact event” which forms discursive construction.
Under conditions of modern digital globalization, electronic media
can play a key role in formation of the memory. In the report I examine
visual areas connected to Russia-Ukraine war and narrative materials
in Georgian and Ukrainian media. The main conceptual approach for
research is revealing of “symbolic wounds” confessed in the trauma
theory, symbolic pictures, texts created in the electronic media, which
caused special interest and remained in “memory files”.
Corresponding theoretical research shall analyze, show how
narratives direct the memory of individual toward collective memory.
For analysis by such approach, for the report there was also applied
qualitative research via with key informants interview (in the depth interviews, for which we selected people with various specialities in
Georgia and Ukraine, connected to this issue from diff erent standpoints).
In result of analysis of synthesis and discourse of empirical materials
there will be revealed those images and symbolic areas of traumatic
memory, which we logically call “Symbolic wounds”.
