Abstract:
XX century Science, Art and Literature, In the framework of Soviet Union present
rather strange, even paradoxical phenomena. There was some kind of Renaissance in
development of culture, despite the Ideological pressure and strong censorship.
In present day life, in time of freedom of word, we can not encounter with same
success of creative works, which we observed in Soviet period.
To explain this paradox, let’s consider the counterpoint principle.
In musical composition this principle means to introduce the theme, which
sounds as an opposition to the major premise. On the wave of contradiction between these
two opposite poles, the stream of music develops toward the final point.
Soviet ideology restricted the freedom of creativity and played a role of counterpoint
in artistic development of creative thought. This positive effect of negative obstacles
provided the soviet culture with prosperity.
American Democracy seems to be free from ideological pressure. In American
culture the part of counterpoint plays a free market. Business and Economical demands
introduce in art and literature principle of profitability. Such pragmatic attitude is totally
alien for the exalted spirit of impartial, pure art.
In our essay we try to show that this alienation has positive, productive sense. It
provokes, like a counterpoint the artistic thinking and provides the American culture
with new horizon of development in infinite perspective of human creative activity.
