Item Challenges of regional economic development in Georgia(Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Press, 2018) Jibuti, MariamThe paper provides discussion about the administration arrangement of Georgia and regional development approaches. The study reveals the problem of regional divergence and concludes that Georgia is strongly monocentric country with territorial, social and economic disparities. Challenges which regional policy makers face in Georgia are discussed in the article. Regional level of governance is not defined by law. However, historical areas/regions are objects for policy planning [3]. Effectiveness of country’s regional division had not been assessed or studied in terms of economic development planning purpose. Our research aimed to define criteria for such assessment and make an evaluation. Knowing how to apply these in modern life, is essential for the ecological economic growth of the future. It is a way of thinking, within all sectors, to enhance not only peoples’ daily lives and atmosphere, but the self-reliance and health of the nation itself.
