    Global trends of e-commerce development and Georgia

    E-commerce has seen significant growth and transformation over the years. Scientists and experts in the field have extensively researched and analyzed various trends that reveal the main advantages and challenges of this type of business. The development of information technology and the growth of digital transformation processes have given birth to a digital consumer in the market. Also, the share of online shopping in total sales has increased significantly during the COVID-19 period, with mobility restrictions prompting many people to purchase products online more often. In the face of rising inflation, consumers prefer research and price comparisons to make informed decisions, and e-commerce provides this opportunity best. Despite the steady growth of online spending in Georgia, the share of e-commerce in retail sales is significantly lower than that of developed markets. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the digital infrastructure and promote the introduction of modern technologies. Georgia should use the existing advantages such as a developed banking sector, high access to the Internet and a relatively young population of the country.
