China is currently the worldʼs second-largest economy in a transitional phase as it seeks to develop new markets, establish new transport routes and value chains, and mobilize natural resources globally. “Global China” – is a phenomenon which refers to spatial and political strategies employed by the Communist Party of China to address the socio-economic challenges encountered along the process of Chinaʼs rise as a world power. The growing influence of China, along with the outflow of Chinese capital into the post-Soviet space, can be understood as part of this broader historical trend. To take advantage of emerging opportunities, smaller countries like Georgia are adapting their economic and foreign policies to align with contemporary political processes both globally and regionally. In 2017 and 2023, Georgia signed free trade and strategic partnership agreements with China, supporting various Chinese global initiatives, with the "Belt and Road" being the most significant. Furthermore, Georgiaʼs strategic location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia positions it as one of the four main countries along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. This route, also known as the “Middle Corridor”, is a regional initiative that forms part of the “Belt and Road”, specifically associated with the China–Central Asia–West Asia Economic Corridor. The article examines how Chinaʼs political-economic interests in the South Caucasus influence Georgiaʼs multi-sector development strategy for 2022-2030, officially named “Vision 2030: Development Strategy of Georgia". It addresses several key issues, including the political logic and interests that drive Chinaʼs “Global Rise” and how this phenomenon affects the behavior and development policies of various countries. Specifically, the article seeks to answer the following research questions regarding the regional political and economic interests of China in connection to Georgia: (a) What impact do Chinaʼs interests and presence have on Georgiaʼs “Vision 2030: Development Strategy of Georgia”? (b) In which areas do the interests of China intersect with Georgiaʼs 2022-2030 development strategy? In light of the history of the “Rise of Contemporary China”, the results of the documentʼs qualitative analysis confirm the hypothesis that Georgiaʼs latest development strategy aims to align with Chinaʼs regional geoeconomic interests, focusing on economic sectors that are primary targets for Chinaʼs global capital outflow. Georgia serves as a notable example of how Chinaʼs presence has influenced the national development policies of local states in the post-Soviet region. An examination of “Vision 2030” highlights the direct effects of Chinaʼs global strategy and the alignment of interests between the economic policies of both countries across various sectors. This analysis provides insights not only into the current trends but also attempts to outline potential future developments.
