Abstract
In a referendum held on 23 June 2016, the majority of British citizens
chose to leave the European Union. This finally happened on 1 January
2021. The newly-coined term „Brexit“ (British exit) is used to denote
the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union.
This article attempts to show the situation in Britain two years after
Brexit was finally completed. It describes some of the changes invoked
by Brexit in the lives of the British people. The supporters of Brexit
claimed that the advantages would outweigh the disadvantages. However,
clearly, this is not the case. Specifically, the problems arising after
Brexit included, for instance, the end of freedom to work and live
between the UK and the EU, a rise in the rate of inflation, the relationship
between northern Ireland ( part of the UK) and the Republic of
Ireland, etc. Therefore, all the indications are if a referendum was held
now, the majority of voters would be against leaving Europe.
