Abstract
Bela Chekurishvili’s works are marked by several interesting moments.
They belong to the postmodern literature, post-Soviet Georgian literature,
are the works of a woman writer, and recently, while Bela Chekurishvili has
been living in Germany, her texts of the recent period belong to the immigration
literature, where we can observe several additional aspects, such
as interculturalism, nostalgia, identity issues, etc.
Initially, the migratory experience was reflected in Bela Chekurishvili’s
prose texts – “Tales from the Banks of the Rhine”, which combine 27 stories,
novellas and stories that have a touch of transmission and narration of
travel and adventure.
Recently, a collection of poems by Bela Chekurishvili “Nana’s Horse”
has been published, which combines poems written in emigration. The collection
is multi-layered. The poems presented as photo shots create a kind
of album, which equally reflects the author’s microcosm and the whole picture
of the country, countries and environment. The poems are filled with
faces and codes that are effortlessly connected to each other. National,
intercultural, migration, gender and other perspectives create important
accents in Bela Chekurishvili’s poems, which, in turn, form original poetic
images.
In the present paper, we talk about the representation of migration experience
using the example of Bela Chekurishvili’s new collection of poems
“Nana’s Horse”.
