Abstract

This study presents a systemic analysis of Georgia’s geoeconomic thought and research directions. It aims to identify and assess key stages of development, theoretical concepts, and methodological approaches of geoeconomic research in Georgia based on monographs, articles, and dissertations by Georgian and foreign authors. The research object is Georgia’s geoeconomic research space, while the subject includes theoretical and methodological foundations for interpreting economic development, international integration, and regional functions. The study uses critical literature review, comparative analysis, systemic approach, and conceptual synthesis. The first section examines geoeconomic theory, including Edward Luttwak, Robert Blackwill, Jennifer Harris, international political economy (IPE), and global value chains (GVCs). It also analyses Georgian geoeconomic thought and key scholarly contributions. Results indicate that Georgia has developed an independent academic tradition integrating economic, political, institutional, and spatial factors. The modern model relies on three components: transit function, economic security, and global value chain integration. The study concludes that development depends on geographic advantages, diversification, innovation, and deeper global integration. This work systematizes Georgian geoeconomic research and integrates it into international discourse. It highlights the importance of strengthening interdisciplinary approaches and improving methodological coherence in future studies of Georgia’s geoeconomic development within global transformations. It also emphasizes policy relevance for sustainable growth and resilience in a rapidly changing international economic environment and regional competitiveness enhancement strategies are crucial.
