Item Demographic knowledge level of students in Georgia(Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Press, 2019) Gelashvili, Simon; Mindorashvili, Marine; Maghradze, NinoThe demographic structure of the population plays a significant role in the socioeconomic development of the country. Given this importance, it is necessary to study demographic events and processes, as well as public opinion, knowledge and awareness of these issues. Quantitative and qualitative indicators of demographic knowledge level of students in Georgia were obtained from sampling statistical analysis by using SPSS software. Many general and special indicators (ratios, means and variations) were calculated and evaluated during the research process. The analysis revealed students’ different demographic mood according to gender, age, ethnicity and other groups. According to the results of the survey, 22.8% of respondents fi nd demographic problems most challenging in Georgia. Majority of them (67.0%) think that the demographic situation in the country is alarming and needs to be corrected, 28.9% consider the situation catastrophic, and only 1.0% believe that the situation is stable and does not require regulation. It should be noted that 17.3% of the students surveyed fi nd it difficult to assess their demographic situation in the country, since they have never been interested in this issue. The study revealed a low level of demographic education of students in Georgia, which is mainly due to the lack of relevant subjects.Item Employment statistics in the business sector of Georgia against the backdrop of pandemic shocks(Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Press, 2022) Abesadze, Nino; Gelashvili, Simon; Mindorashvili, Marine; Dzebisauri, LiaThe article provides a statistical analysis of employment in the business sector according to the form of ownership of enterprises, size of enterprises, organizational-legal form and regional cut. Emphasis is made and indicators are calculated according to the category of employees, as well as hired employees. Based on the analysis conducted according to each classification sign, appropriate conclusions are made. In the research process are used: statistical grouping, data presentation, time series, variation analysis and other methods. The indicators of employment in the business sector were highly heterogeneous according to years, regions, forms of ownership and size of enterprise. During the analysis period, the number of employees increased by 7% on average every year, but in 2020, their number decreased by 7% compared to the previous year; In the business sector, the largest number of people are employed in industry, wholesale and retail trade, automobile and motorcycle repair and construction; Most are employed in the limited liability companies, however, the number of employees in joint-stock companies and cooperatives is also increasing dynamically. In 2021, significant part of the jobs in business sector will come from the large and small business sector.Item Geographical statistics of foreign direct investments in Georgia(Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Press, 2018) Gelashvili, Simon; Magradze, NinoThe study analyzes the long-term time series of foreign direct investments (FDI) implemented in Georgia according to individual countries and their unions. Different statistical indicators (relative and average) are also calculated, as well as growth rates for both the entire analytical period and for separate years. As a result of the analysis, different term trends of foreign direct investments were determined by the groups of countries (EU countries, Asian countries, American countries, countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, etc.). The variation of foreign direct investments in Georgia was studied and the maximum and minimum values were identified.Item Reforming state statistics in the republic of South Africa at the end of the 20th century(Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Press, 2019) Gelashvili, SimonThe article discusses the process of reforming state statistics in South Africa since the early 1990s. Institutional deficiencies of state statistics related to political, social, economic, demographic and other factors of the country have been identified. The analysis showed that despite significant regressions in various fields, strong fragmentation of the public is still high in South Africa, which is a negative factor for the development of official statistics. The production of objective and high quality statistical data, their publication and proper use is of great importance for an adequate assessment of this situation.Item Reproductive disposition of Georgian students and youth(Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Press, 2020) Khmaladze, Merab; Gelashvili, Simon; Shonia, ZamiraAfter the collapse of the Soviet Union, in Georgia, as in the other former Soviet republics, a general crisis erupted that covered all aspects of life, including demographic relations. The birth rate has fallen sharply, meeting only the needs of short-lived reproduction. In 2018, about two times fewer babies were born than in 1990. Under such a regime of population reproduction, the generation of parents would have been replaced by a smaller number of children. There were years when the natural growth of the Georgian population was zero. Today, the demographic situation is slightly improved, but it takes many years to achieve the desired situation. The generation of parents is replaced by the generation of children in equal numbers. But such a regime of population reproduction is unacceptable for Georgia, whose population declined sharply in the post-Soviet period, from 1992 to 2018 (from 5.5 million to 3.7 million, or 32.7%). This is an alarming situation and such a decline in population has not occurred in any post-Soviet country. Throughout Georgia, student demographic sentiment surveys were first conducted at the Tbilisi State University, Department of Economic and Social Statistics in 2019, within the framework of the targeted research project of the Faculty of Economics and Business - “Student Demographic Mood of Georgia”. The obtained data were processed and the corresponding indices were calculated using SPSS software. The reproductive mood of students and youth, that is, the attitude towards childbearing and its study, is an important condition for predicting Georgia’s demographic future. Our study gave some encouraging results, namely: students named 3 children as the desired number of children in the family and 2.8 expected. Both of these points fully support the expanded reproduction mode of the population, of course, if realized in the future.Item Statistical study of changes in student household expenditures during the COVID-19 Pandemic(Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Press, 2021) Gelashvili, Simon; Oqruashvili, Mariam; Pantsulaia, NestanThe article discusses the quantitative changes in the dynamics and structure of student household spending in Georgia during the COVID-19 pandemic. Coronavirus is a major global challenge that has significantly reduced the well-being of the population and the development trends of individual countries. This situation is further exacerbated by the expectation that the transition of the country to the rails of a knowledge-based economy will be further delayed as the pandemic has severely affected the education sector. In addition, compared to the pre-pandemic period, household expenditures on education have decreased, which, of course, has a negative impact on the level of education of the next generation. That is why it is important to have a systematic and complex statistical analysis of the cost structure of student households, which in the future may be the basis for the development and implementation of relevant student-centred programs. The analysis revealed interesting trends in comparing students ‘and parents’ views on changes in their household spending. Nearly half of the students surveyed reported that their household expenses increased during the pandemic, but a larger number of parents, or 54%, reported an increase in the same expenses. The largest difference in the views of students and parents was found in the case of expenditures on the purchase of property, in particular, in 30% of households the opinions of students and their parents.Item Statistical trends of labor compensation in the field of business in terms of administrative regions of Georgia(Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Press, 2023) Gelashvili, Simon; Khabeishvili, TeonaThe article presents a comparative statistical analysis of wages in the business sector in the administrative regions of Georgia (including for the period of the Covid-19 pandemic). The purpose of the article is to use statistical methods to estimate the elasticity of the average salary to the economic shock caused by the pandemic and to analyze its impact on the regional trends of the average salary change. Based on the comparative analysis, the peculiarities and changed trends in the administrative regions of the country before and during the pandemic have been established and evaluated the directions of the average salary changes have been analyzed based on the official statistical data of 2010- 2021. Many statistical methods are widely used in the article, such as: relative, average and variance indicators, as well as time series and data presentation methods. Many indicators calculated through them are presented in the form of group and combination tables, as well as diagrams and graphs. On the basis of comparative statistical analysis, the regions with high and low wage rates and also the absolute magnitude of inequality between them are established. Accordingly, 3 groups of regions with low, medium and high indicators of labor remuneration are presented.
