Item Challenges of distance learning during Covid-19 and statistics from a socio-demographic perspective(Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Press, 2022) Giorgobiani, Maia; Dzebisauri, LiaIn 2020, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, certain restrictions were introduced in Georgia, which significantly affected the learning process, and distance learning (DL) was introduced throughout the country. This has created significant problems for both students and teachers. Students from low-income families living in high mountain regions and teachers who do not have the skills to use information technology found themselves in a difficult situation. The aim of this article is not to find the ways of solving problems of DL but to show the statistical trend of difficulties from socio-economic perspective. Based on expert assessment methods, three large universities in Georgia were analyzed using the method of integral assessment. Challenges of DL were observed taking into account teachers' qualifications, age categories, gender and other social and demographic parametersItem Impact of public debt sustainability on the economic growth of Georgia(Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Press, 2019) Muchiashvili, Marina; Giorgobiani, Maia; Shonia, ZamiraThe analysis evidenced that by 2018, the marginal indicators of public debt sustainability (public debt/ GDP, state debt/budget revenue and public debt/export) of Georgia remained below the thresholds. Despite this, the fiscal sustainability of Georgia may be threatened in the long-term perspective due to the different shocks (severe currency devaluation being an important factor among them), significant growth of the future social liabilities, growing scales of subsidies for different branches of economy and increasing gross external debt of Georgia (which already exceeds 100% of GDP). Without urgent adjustments in the fiscal policy, disclosures and management of fiscal risks, in the long term, the government of Georgia may find it necessary to drastically cut the budgetary expenses. The article emphasizes that the macroeconomic stability and stable economic growth of Georgia in the long-term perspective needs gradual adjustments of the fiscal policy.Item Pandemic and distance learning - a comparative analysis of the views of professors and students(Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Press, 2021) Giorgobiani, Maia; Tikishvili, Mzia; Pirtskhalaishvili, DeaCovid-19 has created new challenges globally. A number of restrictions have forced students and professors to switch remotely and adjust to new rules. Surveys that were conducted by research centers showed a rather positive attitude towards distance learning. However, forced social distance, had a major impact on respondents’ responses during the Covid Pandemic. The purpose of this paper is to make a comparative analysis of views of professors and students about remote learning during the pandemic period. Students and professors, of Georgian universities from different regions, participated in the study. Data obtained from the study were processed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Based on the research, the following issues were highlighted: - Comparative analysis of students’ and professors’ attitude towards distance learning; - Identifying advantages and disadvantages of distance learning from the point of view of students and professors; - Determining the preferred mode of study (distance, direct, mixed) by students and professors. (Comparative analysis in the regional context); - Identification of the most frequently used digital communication services by students and professors; After analyzing above-mentioned issues, the article provides conclusions and recommendations that will help us to address the challenges we have identified.Item Self-sufficiency of post-soviet Georgia with agricultural products(Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Press, 2023) Khmaladze, Merab; Giorgobiani, Maia; Chitaladze, KetevanAgriculture is a form of the country's strategic activity: the Georgians themselves are an ancient agricultural people, although today's agriculture in Georgia cannot be considered a successful industry. By 2020, it accounts for 7.3% of Sakrtvelo's gross domestic product and 19.8% of employees. Accordingly, the issue of self-sufficiency in agricultural products of the country is acute. For this, the dynamics of horticulture and livestock production in Soviet and post-Soviet Georgia, the issue of import dependence of agriculture, the country's self-sufficiency ratios by types of main agricultural products are analyzed.Item Statistical analysis of students socio-demographic characteristics(Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Press, 2019) Mindorashvili, Marine; Abesadze, Nino; Giorgobiani, MaiaDirect impacts on demographic events and processes are limited. Therefore, it is difficult to establish the acceptable reproductive attitude of society, for the current stage and to determine its corresponding demographic behavior. The problem becomes more acute when it comes to demographic behavior of young people when background is not very favorable. In this case, of course, one should take into account not only the diversity of young people's ideas about the expected demographic behavior, but also the variety of family, national, economic and social factors, religious traditions and other life values that determine their demographic mood. The socio-demographic characteristics of the students we surveyed, serve to form the database for statistical assessment of the demographic mood of students in Georgia.Item Study of married women's attitude towards retirement age(University of the Philippines Los Baños, 2023) Kharadze, Natalia; Tikishvili, Mzia; Giorgobiani, Maia; Katsitadze, Nana; Pirtskhalaishvili, Dea; Dugladze, DavitWomen in Georgia have traditionally been perceived as the main driving force in raising children and doing household chores. The existence of Georgia under Russian influence contributed significantly to the strengthening of the mentioned stereotypes. The article discusses research related to women's attitudes toward retirement-age challenges. We presume that a woman in her retirement years devotes most of her leisure time to caring for her family. That is why comparing the characteristics of women with various marital statuses seemed interesting to us. The research was conducted in the leading universities of Georgia. 630 respondents were surveyed. In accordance with the purpose of our study, we selected female respondents (453). During the research, we formulated the following hypotheses: H1: Women's marital status plays a significant role in the fear of job loss; H2: Women's fear of losing their job at retirement age is affected by whether they have children. Along with this, the article discusses the factors that influence the attitude of women toward retirement age. The mentioned issues include the purchase of high-quality products, fear of maintaining health, travel, inability to help relatives, and psychological stress due to separation from the work environment. The SPSS statistical software package was used to process the obtained results. As a result, essential recommendations were developed to help female respondents face the retirement age with dignity.
