Abstract
World War I put a temporary halt to the activities of the Georgian political parties. Russian imperial secret agencies did their best to stop nationalist movements in the country. Nevertheless, the socialist-federalists tried to strengthen the idea of statehood among the Georgian population. Newspaper “People’s Paper” published by them was the most popular in Georgia by that time. During the World War I the federalists also managed to publish another newspaper called “Zvirti”. The federalists’ increased political activity during World War I is also reflected in the creation of a youth branch of their party. The party played a crucial role among other nationalist parties which operated in Georgia. The revolution which broke out in Russia in February-March 1917 was unexpected for both, Russian and Georgian political elites. Despite this, the Georgian socialist-federalists together with national democrats and social democrats were well prepared to those political changes which had to take place in the country.
