Abstract

5 out of 9 pieces of I type didrachm were found in West Georgia, 3 of which – in Colchian coin hoards of Poti and Akhalsopeli (Zugdidi district). The majority of the coins found in these hoards represents the II type hemidrachms. Calling the I type didrachm this way is conventional. Heavy coins (10 gr., 10,1 gr., 11,3 gr., 11,4 gr.) must be staters of Persian system, whereas light ones (7,9 gr., 8,1 gr., 8,6 gr., 8,6 gr., 9,4 gr.) – the didrachms of Attic system. Normally, reverse of I type didrachm shows female figure with a bull’s head, kneeling. And the stater of theBritish Museum shows female figure with a bull’s head kneeling only on one, right knee, like archer on Achaemenid siglos. So, reverse of t type didrachm sometimes and partly could be patterned on Achaemenid siglos.
