Abstract
The article discusses the quantitative changes in the dynamics and structure of student
household spending in Georgia during the COVID-19 pandemic. Coronavirus is a major global challenge that has significantly reduced the well-being of the population and the development trends of individual countries. This situation is further exacerbated by the expectation that the transition of the country to the rails of a knowledge-based economy will be further delayed as the pandemic has severely affected the education sector. In addition, compared to the pre-pandemic period, household expenditures on education have decreased, which, of course, has a negative impact on the level of education of the next generation. That is why it is important to have a systematic and complex statistical analysis of the cost structure of student households, which in the future may be the basis for the development and implementation of relevant student-centred programs.
The analysis revealed interesting trends in comparing students ‘and parents’ views on changes in their household spending. Nearly half of the students surveyed reported that their household expenses increased during the pandemic, but a larger number of parents, or 54%, reported an increase in the same expenses. The largest difference in the views of students and parents was found in the case of expenditures on the purchase of property, in particular, in 30% of households the opinions of students and their parents.
