dc.description.abstractBoris Pasternak’s letters to the Georgian addressees are an important research material for understanding the translation process or the writer’s views and opinions on his time and epoch. The research presented here is based on the part of Boris Pasternak’s epistolary heritage addressed to his Georgian friends. The personal letters of Boris Pasternak have always arisen the interest of researchers and even today it is still in progress. Pasternak’s work, his life, and worldview are characterized by a distinctly intense feeling of time and era. In a letter written to his parents in 1914, he noted: “Time does not move, but drops by drop it is being squeezed by knots...” Time does not move, it is time of immobility. He imagines himself to be the center of the world. The desire to reproduce not only time, but also the universe is born. When fear and terror reign, “you have to survive” both physically and morally. This process of internal struggle, survival, self-searching and creation was carefully reflected in Pasternak’s epistolary legacy. These letters are a way to talk not only to the addressees, but also to yourself. A trip to Georgia became a journey into himself for Pasternak, an opportunity of reproducing the creative world, a “falling out of schedule”, Titsian Tabidze’s “falling over” (that’s what Titian called the special, stormy intonation characteristic of him, according to Simon Chikovani). Pasternak’s ability to constantly feel the pulse of time, to understand his big plans, is also expressed in the fact that he knows exactly when it is time to fight and when to wait. Although he cannot adapt to such large-scale dehumanization, he considers waiting to be a stage of struggle. Pasternak’s path is the path of constant creation, the path of death and conscience, as Merab Mamardashvili points about Marsel Proust. And this is the way that brings purification, because, if we remember Proust, being only a spectator of great events does not bring purification, does not give one freedom. It is crucial what role you will play in these events, what you will be able to do is decisive. This will be your fate. Pasternak chooses this fate because he wants more. As he writes to Nino Tabidze in December 1955, he has many excuses and desires to break his solitude and engage in common activities. However, it is at this time that he analyses that he has almost nothing to do with the people whom he loves and respects. He knows for sure that for “rebirth” he has to go through the path of death, he has to write and publish a novel. Boris Pasternak knows that the time plan has been fulfilled in all respects and believes that their time has already passed: “That huge period, which cost us an unheard-of effort, is over. An immeasurably large space has been released, which is still empty and awaits the new, the unseen, what will be achieved by someone’s genius independence and innovation, what inspires and predicts the life of new days and dates” (Pasternak, 2018, p. 269) Searching for lost time, The search for the lost paradise is now the prerogative of the new generation. Pasternak writes about this to Titsian’s Tanit, Nita Tabidze, who went through Dante’s Hell. And Pasternak has to deal with the danger of being lost in time and create himself and an epochal novel. Pasternak’s epistolary heritage reflects this path in a very interesting way.en_US
